House History and Gallery

Said to have been built in the 1850s, this house was famous as the residence of M. Jeff Thompson, the Swamp Fox of the Confederacy, who was Mayor of St. Joseph from 1857-1860. In the late 19th century the house became the home of Richard E. Turner, President of the Turner-Frazer Mercantile, Co. one of the largest retail companies in the city. In the 1970s the house was allowed to become derelict and was demolished in 1979.
